Wedding Album Care and Maintenance

Lately, I have been often asked about proper care and maintenance for the albums, PhotoBooks, and signature books. They all have leather covers. So I guess the bottom line is: use common sense. In other words, don’t be flipping the pages of the album when you are eating Cheetos, or use your coffee table book as a coaster for your morning coffee… which I know you won’t be doing.

Your wedding album is constructed to last generations. It is primarily made up of two materials paper- and leather covers. The leather is very different then leather that goes on furniture or apparel: it is treated differently, so try to avoid anything that might stain it.

As with anything made from paper, humidity and temperature changes can and will affect your album pages. Your album should not be stored in any area that has high humidity or is damp… That can be a very bad thing.

What will happen is the pages may warp or stick. If this does happen, the pages usually will go back to their original form once moved to a more temperature controlled environment. You could also place a heavy object on top of the album, but only if you can evenly distribute the weight. After a couple weeks, it should be good as new.

Storing your album in an attic that is not temperature controlled or heavily insulated is usually not advisable. Also, don’t leave your wedding album on a coffee table that is in direct sunlight or in your car. The sunlight and heat can cause the glues to break down, and the leather can fade.

Since everyone’s home is different, every album can be affected differently dependant on the size of the book, the type of paper used, and the style of album you purchase. To a certain extent, slight page warping is normal.

I go over this in greater detail with my clients when an album is delivered. If you have any specific questions, please feel free to call or email.

Thanks,

Aaron
